Introduction
Joomla! is an open-source content management system (CMS) that is written in PHP and makes use of popular database management tools such as MariaDB and PostgreSQL. Joomla has over 7000 free and commercial extensions available from the official extension directory and many more available from third-parties. Stack Harbor has made it easy for you to deploy a Joomla! site with very little configuration.
Accessing Your Application
Once your Stack has finished building, you’ll be able to access your unpopulated Joomla! site by pointing your browser to your IP address. To start creating posts and performing other administrative tasks, visit http://your_ip_address/administrator to login to the administrative dashboard. You’ll need to SSH into your machine in order to gain access to your login credentials. If you don’t know how to SSH into your machine, check out our detailed “Getting Started With Your Stack” tutorial to help you out.
Once you’ve logged into your machine using SSH, you’ll see a block of text logged to your terminal. This is called the message of the day and contains sensitive information related to your Stack. We recommend you take note of the access credentials somewhere safe and run rm -f /etc/motd for added safety. Using the first set of credentials, log into the administrative dashboard using the link we provided earlier. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll be able to manage your Joomla application.
Final Words
Congratulations! You have a working installation of Joomla! content management system. You’re all set up to begin publishing blog posts, creating users who can do the same, and perhaps pointing a domain name you’ve purchased to the Stack you built. Check out our Community Section for more tutorials on various server administration tasks and much more. From all of us at Stack Harbor, ahoy!
